Pedants’ Revolt return to The Cellar House from around 7.30pm on WEDNESDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER. They will be dancing for around an hour (or a bit longer!).
Pedants’ Revolt is a group of men and women who dance the Border style of Morris, which involves ‘blacking up’.
They do this for the same reason that many dancers did throughout the nineteenth century. That is to avoid being recognised – either by friends and neighbours who might frown on what some regard as begging, or by employers who would take a dim view of workers with no good excuse for being away from work.
Dancers in the past used burnt cork; the Pedants’ use a mix of purple and black face paints.
With Golden Star Morris.
